The Department of Malaysian Languages and Applied Linguistics was set up in 1998 with the first intake of undergraduate students. The staff members in the Department also conduct Malay language courses for international students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At present, the Department has 16 staff members who engage in teaching and research in the languages taught in the Department and translation studies.
The Department provides students with an education that emphasizes creativity and life-long learning. As a result, they can easily adapt to a wide range of professions. Graduates of the Department majoring in either Chinese or Tamil Language; will be equipped with a high degree of proficiency in these languages, and excellent interpersonal communication skills. Our graduates work in both the public and private sectors, especially in the fields of education, mass media and other language related fields.
