A group of 17 third-year students from the Department of Tamil Language, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, recently embarked on an insightful field trip to Pantai Remis, Perak. The main objective of this visit was to analyze the local dialect spoken by the fishermen in the area, specifically those residing in Kampung Bharu.

During the trip, students had the opportunity to interview the fishermen, carefully listening and taking notes to understand the unique linguistic features of their dialect. The fieldwork provided valuable exposure to how regional dialects are preserved and used in daily life among fishing communities.

In addition to the dialect study, students also visited several fishing sites, where they observed the fish-catching and sorting processes. It was a fascinating experience to witness the variety of fish, the tools and equipment used, and to learn about the traditional rituals associated with the fishing process.

This field trip was not only academically enriching but also a meaningful cultural experience. It deepened the students' understanding of sociolinguistics and traditional livelihoods, making it a truly memorable and educational journey.
