Scholarships Awarded to Students

Chong Wen Xin from the Bachelor of Spanish Language and Linguistics programme was awarded a scholarship from Universidad de la Rioja with support from the Spanish government to study Spanish language and culture from Oct 2017 to Jun 2018.



2 of our Japanese Major students participated in short-term programs in Japan. 

i. Saif Iqbal bin Agus Supandi (2nd Year), Re-Inventing Short Visit Program 2017 (10-20 Feb 2017), organised by Kyushu University, JASSO Scholarship.

ii. Muhammad Imran bin Shaharuddin (1st Year), JAL Scholarship Program 2017 (25 June-18 July 2017), organised by JAL Foundation. All expenses covered by JAL Foundation.

Hui Yan Soo, 2nd year student from the Bachelor of German Language and Linguistics programme, won the DAAD Scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service. The duration of the course is 1 month. Itwas held at RWTH Aachen University, Germany in July 2017.



2016 JAL Scholarship

Lee Hui Wern, first year student from the Bachelor of Japanese Language and Linguistics programme, won the 2016 JAL Scholarship Program. She represented Malaysia to participate in a 23-day programme organised by JAL Foundation, in collaboration with Japan Airlines and the government of Japan.

Three students from Spanish division are now in Spain to complete their outbound exchange program. Nur Adlina binti Hishammudon Shah and Nurin Nusratina binti Ramlan are attached at Universidad de Alicante, Facultad de Filosofía y Letras for 6 months. Whereas for Muhammad Zaki Bin Salim, he is attached at Universidad La Rioja, Facultad de Letra y de la Educación for 6 months.

One student from French division, Aysha Zamuel, has just completed her one-year outbound exchange program at Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO). She went to Paris in September 2019.

Students Achievements

12th Korean Speech Contest in Malaysia held in Dewan Perdana, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UKM on 4th November, Saturday. - The student, Ooi Shu Qi has won a special prize in the contest. And Dr. Jang too received a prize as one of the judge for the contest.

Avinaash a/l Baskaran (Spanish Dept) and Nur Aqilah Zulfa bt Abd Rahman (Arabic Dept) for being appointed as Inspectors of Voluntary Police in a ceremony of "Perbarisan Tamat Latihan dan Penyampaian Sijil Perlantikan Pegawai Kor Suksis ke 13" at Universiti Utara Malaysia

 



On the 30th April 2017, three of our Japanese Major students won the Gold Prize for the Poster Presentation Competition at the 11th Annual Japanese Language Festival (JLfest 2017), organised by the Japanese Language Society of Malaysia (JLSM), The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia and The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL).

 

Three groups of French Division students won Francophonie Quiz for Universities during the La Semaine de la Francophonie organised by French and Francophonie Country Embassies in Malaysia_ April 2017.

University of Malaya Three-Minute Thesis (UM3MT) 2017 competition was successfully held on 22 March 2017.

InterPTj Badminton women double winners PPUM 1st and 2nd placing, FBL & PPUM 3rd placing

Heartfelt congratulations to Dr Wong Ngan Ling for receiving a recognition of Malaysian Master Athletics Association for winning a silver medal at the Asia Level Master Athletics Competition at Kuching last December. Dr Wong and her Malaysian team, women aged 50-54, won a silver medal for the event of 4x400m relay. The Asia Masters Athletics Championships are the biannual championship of Asia Masters Athletics (AMA), one of six continental based regional affiliates of World Masters Athletics (WMA), known as the World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA) from its formation in 1977 until 2001. About 3,000 athletes from 29 countries were in Kuching to take part in the 21st Asia Masters Athletics Championship (AMAC) Kuching 2019 which is held from 2nd until December 7.  Dr Wong has won many medals in sports that she has involved in such as running, javelin, and long jump. Congratulations again on your well-deserved success.

Dr Wong received the award during Fancy Dress Masquerade Party and Award Representation ceremony.
