Introduction

The Department of Arabic and Middle Eastern Languages offers major courses for its undergraduate programme, the Bachelor in Languages and Linguistics (Arabic Language). This is a three and a half year programme. It also offers elective courses such as Elementary Arabic and Intermediate Arabic to the university students. Graduates of our programme can find career opportunities in teaching, journalism, publishing, editing, writing, diplomacy and foreign affairs, translation and interpretation and various possibilities in the public and private sectors.

Our teaching staff comprises of local and international academic staff who are highly qualified. Apart from teaching department courses, they are also involved in teaching and supervision at the Master’s and PhD levels.  Academic members within the department are involved in various funded research projects and publish their work at recognised national and international journals.
